Biotechnology Center Audio Visual Guidelines

The Center provides AV support 9 AM to 5 PM Monday through Friday. Please note the following:

  • Staffing for events is on a best-effort basis. We do NOT guarantee that your event will be staffed or that technical support will be available (though it usually is). If this is critical bring your own support staff.
  • UWBC does not have staffing to support after hours events. However, we will be happy to give you training on the equipment during normal business hours without charge. Fees for AV support are currently $40/hour for UW departments and $60/hour for outside groups. There is a minimum half hour charge for support.

The only assistance available for users who do not contract for support is instruction in basic use of our equipment and help in connecting your equipment to ours. If additional assistance is required you will be charged. If you bring your own computer you should know how to use it with an LCD projector. To use our computers you should bring a PowerPoint presentation on a USB Flash Drive ("jump drive") or CD-ROM, not a floppy or zip disk.

The Auditorium

The podium has a touch panel with controls for room lighting and other equipment and connections for a laptop computer (network connection and video projector). A wireless microphone and laser pointer are available.

The following equipment is permanently installed in the Auditorium

Presenters wishing to use this equipment without contracting for AV support can make arrangements to stop in to be instructed in its use. This takes about ten minutes.
Multimedia Projector
This is controlled from the touch panel on the podium. Presenters can bring their own laptop computer or use the computer built into the podium (see below).
Mac Mini (intel)
There is a computer built into the podium that can be used for Powerpoint presentations. It has PowerPoint installed, which will also open presentations from PowerPoint 95, 97, 2000 or XP created on a PC. Your presentation should be brought in on a USB Flash Drive or a CD-ROM. This machine has no floppy or zip drive. It does have an Internet connection.
Overhead Projector
This is kept at the front of the room and is always available.
Slide Projectors
The main projectors for the room are located in the control room, which is kept locked and is only accessible to UWBC staff. To show slides after hours we have a slide projector on a cart that you can request.
Video Recording Equipment
The Center has facilities for recording talks in the Auditorium. These activities require contracting for AV support. The Center also has facilities for capturing video and audio to place on our Web site. This requires at least one week advance notice and there will be an additional charge for processing time (typically 4-6 hours per lecture). Video recording services are only available in the Auditorium (room 1111) and only during normal business hours. If you need an event recorded after hours you will need to bring your own equipment.
Document Camera, DVD/CD Player, VHS VCR
These are also built into the podium.

Room 1360

This room is equipped with a slide projector, overhead, TV and VCR. No special arrangements need to be made for their use. A multimedia projector is permanently installed in the room.

Laptop Computers

The Center has a Powerbook laptop computer and a PC laptop for loan only for presentations in the Biotechnology Center. They have PowerPoint installed. Your presentation should be brought in on a USB Flash Drive or a CD-ROM, not a floppy or zip disk.

UWBC laptop computers are not available after hours to groups not affiliated with the Biotechnology Center.

Presenters may also use their own laptops with the Center's multimedia projectors. Any Mac or PC laptop with a standard VGA connector should work. New macs may require a video adapter. If you have forgotten yours we may be able to provide a loaner.

AV assistance is available in room 1226B of the Biotechnology Center.
