The Illumina Flowcell contains 8 individual channels, or lanes.  Each lane is loaded with a single user's sample.  One sample can be run over many lanes, or many samples can be placed in a single lane with the addition of DNA barcodes, depending on the amount of sequencing necessary for each project.
