The Gene Expression Center provides global gene expression (transcriptome) analysis and genome-wide association studies (GWAS) services using cutting edge next generation sequencing (Illumina HiSeq2000 and Roche 454 FLX) and microarray (Affymetrix, and Illumina ) technologies. A variety of instrumentation is available for independent access, and training is available. The UW Gene Expression Center is located at 425 Henry Mall, Room 3250 in the UW Biotechnology Center.
We are happy to provide consultation for interested researchers.

Applying the MIQE Guidelines for qPCR
GEC hosted seminar on May 16 1:30-2:30 in Biotech 1360
-Dr. Greg Shipley, Co-author of the MIQE Guidelines
There were three main goals when the MIQE Guideline manuscript were put together: 1) to give guidance to the investigator performing qPCR within their studies so that the data would be valid, 2) ensure that the experiments could be repeated by another investigator and understood by reviewers and 3) to facilitate the rapid publication of manuscripts with qPCR data. In Dr. Greg Shipley’s talk, he will cover all the guidelines and offer clarification of the requirements with examples and tips on how to satisfy some of the requirements with the least amount of time.

Illumina iScan System services are available!
Please see our iScan services page for details.
Next Generation sequencing: The Gene Expression Center in
collaboration with the DNA Sequencing Facility is proud to offer next generation sequencing services. Next
generation sequencing applications for Small RNA , directional RNA sequencing, and RNA are available on Illumina's HiSeq 2000.
Illumina iScan system: The Gene Expression Center now offers services for Illumina’s iScan system. The iScan system supports a wide variety BeadChips for researchers needing high throughput options for high-density genotyping, CNV analysis, DNA methylation, and gene expression profiling.
Affymetrix GeneChips: Affymetrix GeneChip technology provides efficient access to genetic information using high-density oligonucleotide probe arrays. Affymetrix manufactures their arrays by employing technologies adapted from the semiconductor industry, photolithography and solid-phase chemistry. These arrays contain hundreds of thousands of unique oligonucleotide probes that are designed to maximize sensitivity, specificity, and reproducibility. An Affymetrix GeneChip Analysis System is available for a variety of functional genomic studies performed with any Affymetrix GeneChip. The Center offers two options for using this system: Full GeneChip Labeling & Hybridization Service and Hybridization and Scanning Service .
The Gene Expression Center's Advisory Committee Members are Audrey Gasch (Laboratory of Genetics), Michael Newton (Department of Bioinformatics and Medical Informatics) Jeff Johnson (School of Pharmacy) and Alan Attie (Department of Biochemistry).
