Mission

Solving the biological problems of the 21st century through genomic technologies combined with information sciences.

Lloyd M. Smith, Director

In 1998 the Genome Center of Wisconsin (GCW) was established at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.  The Genome Center, located at 425 Henry Mall, is a research center existing within the University of Wisconsin Biotechnology Center.

The Genome Center's 16 faculty members represent over 17 departments and six schools within the University of Wisconsin-Madison.  The Genome Center fosters integrative and highly collaborative research that bridges multiple, diverse disciplines.  Faculty members are involved in genomic research, graduate and undergraduate teaching, and pre- and post-doctoral training.

In September 2004, GCW faculty and members moved into state-of-the-art laboratories and office space designed to foster interdisciplinary research collaborations working to create solutions to biological problems raised by genome data. There are four main divisions of study under genomics, which are Genome Sequencing, Functional Genomics, Comparative Genomics, and Bioinformatics. Participating Departments
