Science Expeditions 2009

Planning is now underway for Science Expeditions 2009, which will be held from 12-4 pm on Saturday, April 4th.  The main venues for the event will be the Microbial Sciences Building, Biochemistry Addition, Stock Pavilion, Science House, and the D.C. Smith Greenhouse.  A range of satellite venues, including campus museums, will also be open.

Inside Microbial Sciences and the Biochemistry Addition, we will be offering hands-on Exploration Stations to the public. Click here to learn more about Exploration Stations, including what they are and how to design an effective station.  If you would like to participate in Science Expeditions 2009 by designing and running your own Exploration Station, click here to register for a station.  Registration begins in early February and continues until we have filled the 40 available Station slots.

In addition to the Exploration Stations, we also offer the public Science Spectaculars, which are science shows.  This year, we will be having “Science is Fun” chemistry shows and “Wonders of Physics” shows in the Stock Pavilion, and “Fusion Science Theater” shows in the Microbial Sciences Building.  The Department of Entomology will be celebrating its centennial with a butterfly garden exhibit and an insect zoo in the D.C. Smith Greenhouse and posters in Science House.

The Science Alliance event planning team is currently working on items such as planning the layout of the venues, coordinating setup and food on the day of the event, registering Exploration Stations, and providing information for the public. Click here for more information about event planning and relevant documents, and Click here to register to help up with setup the day of the event. We meet most weeks in spring 2009 at 10 am in rm. 1360 of the Biotechnology Center.  Email Cathy Vrentas at cevrentas@wisc.edu to join the listserv and get more information about these meetings.
