Celebrate 2000 Future Fair

Dec. 4-5, 1999

The final institutional sesquicentennial event of the year, Celebrate 2000 Future Fair, was not originally planned as a sesquicentennial event. Rather, it grew out of the partnership with the Wisconsin State Journal and The Capital Times. The Future Fair was a family event that showcased some of the best ideas, innovations and inventions of our times, and provided a peek at what to expect in the 21st Century. photo of cub scouts at exhibition wearing 3-D sunglasses

This two-day weekend event at the Monona Terrace Community and Convention Center drew more than 6,000 people and highlighted 22 UW-Madison exhibits representing a range of education, research and outreach activities. In the spirit of the Wisconsin Idea, citizens throughout southeastern Wisconsin were treated to a fun-filled dose of educational and interactive programs ranging from gene therapy in the 21st Century, to the next generation of artists, to the foods of our future. According to the organizers, UW-Madison's participation "put the event over the top."
