Shotgun Optical Maps of the Whole Escherichia coli O157:H7 Genome |

| E. coli O157:H7: Escherichia coli O157:H7 EDL933, produces a shiga-like toxin causing over 100,000 cases of human illness annually in the United States alone and poses a significant threat to public health worldwide. Most cases are associated with strains of the serotype O157:H7 and 85% of these are linked to contaminated food. We have constructed XhoI optical map of E.coli O157 solely from genomic DNA molecules to provide a uniquely valuable scaffold for contig closure and sequence validation. Our approach obviated the need for the analysis of clones, PCR products, and hybridizations, since the maps were constructed from ensembles of single DNA molecules. | |||
