The intense regulatory attention focused on crop varieties derived from recombinant DNA technology has virtually dried up future advances from this technology by disincentivizing commercialization. The regulation is based on the technology used, not on the level of risk or biological uncertainty. In this presentation, we examine our ÒTop TenÓ ways to develop a new plant variety, taking a look at the technologies involved and the biological risk and uncertainties included.
