3730xl Genetic Analyzer--Sanger Sequencing

Platform Description

The 3730xl Genetic Analyzer (ThermoFisher) is economical and ideal for small projects of a select number of samples needing information on small regions. The charged products labeled with dyes that are excited while migrating across the detection cell of an array can provide the sizing or sequence.

Sanger Sequencing uses a dye terminator reaction. This can be used to sequence PCR products, verification of insertion/deletion, or point mutation,

Fragment Analysis is the sizing of label PCR product with an internal ladder. Common experiments are AFLP, IDAA, RFLP and microsatellites which can be multiplexed of sizes 100-600bp.
