Our team has years of experience handling DNA extractions from a wide variety of samples types from humans, plants, and animals. Some of our favorite projects include animal saliva and bird feathers – just to name a few. Below you’ll find our most common extraction methods. If you don’t see your sample type listed, please contact us so we can learn more about your project and see where it fits into our extraction workflow*. We have extensive experience troubleshooting difficult to extract sample types and are excited to tackle your species of interest.
QIACube HT Extractions
We utilize the QIACube HT, Qiagen’s automated extraction robot, to perform high throughput extractions in a 96 well plate format for the sample types below.
*Some sample types are in development for the QCHT--such as saliva, but can be extracted with other methods until we fully offer the high-throughput service.
Please note: All human samples collected during and after November 2019 are considered COVID-19 pandemic specimens. If you would like DNA extracted from these types of samples please contact the facility to discuss the details of your project.
We MUST have this information before we can proceed with your request.
Please contact firstname.lastname@example.org to arrange all sample submissions. Samples and submission forms must be submitted before a project can be entered into our queue.
Submission Forms and Guidelines
Please check the service page guidelines for specific Submission Forms and Guidelines that need to be included with your samples.
Submitting Samples/ Shipping Instructions
After setting up a customer account, filling out submission form, and reviewing submission guidelines, you can now submit or send samples. *We require customers to submit electronic Submission Forms!*
In Person Submission
Please give advance notice of submission date and time so staff can be prepared to receive samples. Schedule a time for drop off with a staff member at email@example.com
Please send the tracking information to:
Next Generation Sequencing: firstname.lastname@example.org
*Samples that are being shipped must have a hard copy of the submission form and guidelines in the package! This way we know what the samples are and where they are from.*
If shipping samples from outside UWBC, ship via express shipping carrier on dry ice to the address below:

All human samples collected during and after November 2019 are considered COVID-19 pandemic specimens. If you would like DNA extracted from these types of samples please contact the facility to discuss the details of your project.
Samples that require handling beyond BSL2 containment, select agents, and biological toxins are NOT accepted. As a courtesy to our staff, inform us when samples are known to be pathogenic.
Unless other arrangements have been made, residual samples will not be returned. All residual samples will be autoclaved after DNA extraction and/or downstream testing is completed. It is the submitter’s responsibility to ensure UWBC’s disposal procedure is aligned with submitter’s biosafety protocol.
Extracted DNA can be returned to submitting lab once any downstream testing is completed. If submitting lab does not want the extracted DNA returned, it will be discarded after six months unless other arrangements have been made.
