DNA Sequencing Facility

Oxford Nanopore Sequencing

The Oxford Nanopore GridION provides ultra-long read capability for sequencing whole genomes and discovering structural variants. The GridION was installed on September 2018, but prior to that the MinION was used by the facility to generate data that have proven to be indispensable in assembly of class III microbial genomes. The GridION is now being evaluated for its ability to provide structure for larger scale genomes, in the 30 Mb to 3 Gb range.

Please Note:  Oxford Nanopore requires all customers to sign an acknowledgement that all ONT instrument data is protected by patents and may not be disclosed to third parties. The DNA Sequencing Facility only provides biological data to customers, so while we are required to obtain a signed copy of the agreement from our clients, it has no impact on our clients.

Getting Started

To discuss a project or acquire a quote, please contact nextgen-seq@biotech.wisc.edu. For new clients, please set up an account.

Sample Submission

Please contact nextgen-seq@biotech.wisc.edu to arrange all sample submissions. Samples and sample submission forms must be dropped off to DNA Sequencing personnel in room 1250 Biotech Center before a project can be entered into our queue. Turnaround time for Oxford Nanopore sequencing is typically 4-6 weeks.

Submission Forms and Guidelines

Bioinformatics

Support is available for projects that are run at UWBC facilities, and is provided for a fee by the UWBC Bioinformatics Resource Center. Terminals and software are available in our computer lab for clients of UWBC facilities who are internal to UW-Madison or the University of Wisconsin System who need to perform further analysis but lack the necessary hardware and software.

Acknowledging UWBC and the DNA Sequencing Facility

A visible measure of a core's impact is made through proper acknowledgement of usage in publications. To acknowledge our core, please use the following statement: "The author(s) thank the University of Wisconsin Biotechnology Center DNA Sequencing Facility for providing Oxford Nanopore library preparation and sequencing services”.
