Obtaining Repository Products

We are open for business! We are happy to be back. During Phase 1, we will be operating at reduced capacity. We will make every effort to keep turnaround times short as we understand there are many projects that have been waiting. We appreciate your patience and business. The UW Biotechnology Center is following University guidelines regarding COVID-19.

The members of the International Knockout Mouse Consortium (IKMC) are working together to mutate all protein-coding genes in the mouse using a combination of gene trapping and gene targeting in C57BL/6 mouse embryonic stem (ES) cells. They have made targeted ES cells, frozen sperm, frozen embryos, and live mice commercially available.

If the mice have already been made, frozen embryos and/or sperm may be available. Before deciding to purchase frozen sperm/embryos from a repository, laboratories must be aware of all the costs involved. Samples will be shipped from the repository to GEAM in a special liquid nitrogen tank. The empty shipping tank must be returned to the repository after delivery of samples. Domestic shipping costs ~ $200, international shipping costs ~ $1000-$1900. Some repositories charge a fee/sample. Live offspring will be recovered from frozen sperm via in vitro fertilization.
